Exemplaire sur un flan large et ovale, bien centré des deux côtés avec un plat de frappe visible des deux côtés. Beau portrait de Constantin Ier. Joli revers de style fin. Patine marron foncé

Obverse description : Buste lauré et cuirassé de Constantin Ier à droite drapé sur l’épaule, vu de trois quarts en avant (B*01).
Obverse translation : “Imperator Constantinus Augustus”, (L’empereur Constantin auguste).

Reverse legend : SOLI INV-IC-TO COMITI/ T|F// PLG.
Reverse description : Sol (le Soleil) radié, nu le manteau sur l’épaule, debout à gauche, levant la main droite et tenant un globe de la gauche.
Reverse translation : “Soli Invicto Comiti”, (Au compagnon le Soleil invincible).

Commentary


Poids léger. Ruban de type 3 aux extrémités bouletées. Au revers les lettres dans le champ TF pourraient être les initiales de “Temporum Felicitas” pour les temps heureux.
Lightweight. Type 3 ribbon with rounded ends. On the reverse, the letters in the TF field could be the initials of “Temporum Felicitas” for happy times.

Augustus

Constantine was born in 274, son of Constance Chlore and Helena. He was named Caesar on the death of his father on July 25, 306 and was proclaimed august on December 25, 307. He married Fausta, the daughter of Maximien Hercule, who gave him five children, three of whom were augusts. The first twenty years of his reign are devoted to imposing himself as the main august against Maximian Hercules, Galerius, Maxentius, Maximin II and Licinius. He is recognized as the first Christian emperor, although baptized only on his deathbed on May 22, 337.
