Exemplaire sur un flan mince, large et ovale bien centré des deux côtés. Très beau portrait de Constantin Ier. Revers tout à fait exceptionnel, bien venu à la frappe. Patine marron foncé

Reverse description : Constantin Ier, vêtu militairement debout à gauche, tenant de la main droite tendue un globe et de la main gauche, un long sceptre vertical.
Reverse translation : “Constantino Pio Augusto Bono Reipublicæ Natus” (À Constantin pieux auguste bien né de la République).
Commentary
Poids très léger. Rubans de type 3 aux extrémités bouletées. Ptéryges invisibles sous le paludamentum. C’est la première fois que nous proposons ce type à la vente qui semble beaucoup plus rare que ne le laissent supposer les ouvrages généraux. Malgré la rareté du type, nous n’avons pas relevé d’identité de coin pertinente. C’est le quatorzième exemplaire recensé. Prendra le numéro 504f dans le Supplément III du Bastien.

Constantine was born in 274, son of Constance Chlore and Helena. He was named Caesar on the death of his father on July 25, 306 and was proclaimed august on December 25, 307. He married Fausta, the daughter of Maximien Hercule, who gave him five children, three of whom were augusts. The first twenty years of his reign are devoted to imposing himself as the main august against Maximian Hercules, Galerius, Maxentius, Maximin II and Licinius. He is recognized as the first Christian emperor, although baptized only on his deathbed on May 22, 337.
