CONSTANTINE THE GREAT I
(337) Divus Flavius Valerius Constantinus
Restitution by Constantine II, Constantius II and Constans
Constantine became progressively favorable to the Christians during his reign. He first proclaimed religious freedom with Licinius by the rescript of Milan in 313. Lactantius, in charge of the education of Crispus, was the dream of Constantine, the eve of the battle of the Milvian Bridge, a Christian prophecy. However, Constantine was baptized on his deathbed at Nicomedia 22 May 337. He was the last emperor deified after his death.
