Exemplaire sur un flan extrêmement large et irrégulier avec les grènetis visibles. Beau portrait. Joli revers. Très belle patine vert olive clair

Reverse description : Victoria (la Victoire) marchant à droite, tenant un trophée de la main droite et une palme de la gauche ; devant elle, un captif assis à droite, tournant la tête à gauche.
Reverse translation : “Sarmatia Devicta”, (La Sarmatie vaincue).

Commentary


Poids très léger. Rubans de type 1 aux extrémités bouletées. Nous n’avons pas relevé d’identité de coin pertinente. C’est le sixième exemplaire signalé. Prendra le numéro 171d dans le supplément 3 du Bastien.
Very light weight. Type 1 ribbons with rounded ends. We have not noted any relevant die identity. This is the sixth example reported. Will take number 171d in Bastien supplement 3

Augustus

Constantine was born in 274, son of Constance Chlore and Helena. He was named Caesar on the death of his father on July 25, 306 and was proclaimed august on December 25, 307. He married Fausta, the daughter of Maximien Hercule, who gave him five children, three of whom were augusts. The first twenty years of his reign are devoted to imposing himself as the main august against Maximian Hercules, Galerius, Maxentius, Maximin II and Licinius. He is recognized as the first Christian emperor, although baptized only on his deathbed on May 22, 337.
