Exemplaire sur un petit flan ovale et mince, bien centré des deux côtés. Beau portrait, légèrement stylisé de Constantin Ier. Revers bien venu à la frappe. Patine noire légèrement granuleuse

Obverse description : Buste casqué et cuirassé de Constantin Ier à droite, vu de trois quarts en avant, le casque orné d'une palmette (C*6).
Obverse translation : “Constantinus Augustus”, (Constantin auguste).

Reverse legend : VIRTVS - EXERCIT/ VOT/ XX/S|F/ -|HL// ASIS (CROISSANT ÉTOILÉ).
Reverse description : Vexillum (étendard) inscrit VOT/ XX en deux lignes entre deux captifs assis à terre ; celui de gauche est dans l’attitude de la tristesse et celui de droite a les mains liées dans le dos et se retourne.
Reverse translation : “Virtus Exerciti”, (La Virilité de l’armée).

Augustus

Constantine was born in 274, son of Constance Chlore and Helena. He was named Caesar on the death of his father on July 25, 306 and was proclaimed august on December 25, 307. He married Fausta, the daughter of Maximien Hercule, who gave him five children, three of whom were augusts. The first twenty years of his reign are devoted to imposing himself as the main august against Maximian Hercules, Galerius, Maxentius, Maximin II and Licinius. He is recognized as the first Christian emperor, although baptized only on his deathbed on May 22, 337.
