Commentary


Rubans perlés de type 2 aux extrémités bouletées. Six rangs verticaux de pierres au revers. Tourelles pointées. Étoile à huit rais. Chaque linteau de porte orné de six globules, deux par deux. Les lettres S-F peuvent se développer par “Sæculi Felicitas” (la Félicité du siècle). C’est la première apparition du diadème pour le monnayage de billon.
Type 2 beaded ribbons with rounded ends. Six vertical rows of stones on the reverse. Pointed turrets. Eight-pointed star. Each door lintel decorated with six globules, two by two. The letters SF can be expanded to “Sæculi Felicitas” (the Felicity of the Century). This is the first appearance of the diadem for billon coinage.

Augustus

Constantine was born in 274, son of Constance Chlore and Helena. He was named Caesar on the death of his father on July 25, 306 and was proclaimed august on December 25, 307. He married Fausta, the daughter of Maximien Hercule, who gave him five children, three of whom were augusts. The first twenty years of his reign are devoted to imposing himself as the main august against Maximian Hercules, Galerius, Maxentius, Maximin II and Licinius. He is recognized as the first Christian emperor, although baptized only on his deathbed on May 22, 337.
