Exemplaire sur un petit flan irrégulier, parfaitement centré des deux côtés. Portrait de toute beauté. Très joli revers de style fin. Jolie patine marron foncé chocolat

Obverse description : Buste diadémé, drapé et cuirassé de Constantin Ier à droite, vu de trois quarts en avant (A’c) ; diadème perlé et gemmé.
Obverse translation : "Constantinus Maximus Augustus", (Constantin le grand auguste).

Reverse description : Deux soldats debout face à face, vêtus militairement, tenant chacun une haste renversée et un bouclier au milieu, deux étendards.
Reverse translation : “Gloria Exercitus”, (La gloire de l’armée).

Commentary


Poids léger. Rubans de type 3 aux extrémités bouletées. Arles (Arelatum) change de nom et prend celui de Constantia en l’honneur de Constantin II, né dans la ville. Pour ce type, il existe deux variétés pour le revers avec l’étoile au-dessus des enseignes (F. 395) ou entre les deux enseignes (F. 396).
Lightweight. Type 3 ribbons with rounded ends. Arles (Arelatum) changed its name to Constantia in honor of Constantine II, who was born in the city. For this type, there are two varieties for the reverse with the star above the ensigns (F. 395) or between the two ensigns (F. 396)

Augustus

Constantine was born in 274, son of Constance Chlore and Helena. He was named Caesar on the death of his father on July 25, 306 and was proclaimed august on December 25, 307. He married Fausta, the daughter of Maximien Hercule, who gave him five children, three of whom were augusts. The first twenty years of his reign are devoted to imposing himself as the main august against Maximian Hercules, Galerius, Maxentius, Maximin II and Licinius. He is recognized as the first Christian emperor, although baptized only on his deathbed on May 22, 337.
