Obverse description : Buste diadémé, drapé et cuirassé de Constantin Ier à droite, vu de trois quarts en avant (A’b) ; diadème gemmé.
Obverse translation : "Constantinus Augustus", (Constantin auguste).

Reverse legend : PROVIDEN-TIAE AVGG/ T|F// PCONST.
Reverse description : Porte de camp surmontée de deux tours ; au-dessus, une étoile.
Reverse translation : “Providentiæ Augustorum”, (À la Providence des augustes).

Commentary


Avec l’intégralité de son argenture superficielle. Rubans perlés de type 3 aux extrémités bouletées. Ptéryges fines sous le paludamentum. Sept rangs verticaux de pierres au revers dont le premier est formé de meurtrières ornées de globules. Tourelles pointées. Étoile à huit rais (astre). Les lettres T-F peuvent se développer par “Temporum Felicitas” (la Félicité du temps).
With all its surface silvering. Type 3 pearl ribbons with rounded ends. Thin pteryges under the paludamentum. Seven vertical rows of stones on the reverse, the first of which is formed by loopholes decorated with globules. Pointed turrets. Eight-pointed star (star). The letters TF can be expanded to “Temporum Felicitas” (the Felicity of Time)

Augustus

Constantine was born in 274, son of Constance Chlore and Helena. He was named Caesar on the death of his father on July 25, 306 and was proclaimed august on December 25, 307. He married Fausta, the daughter of Maximien Hercule, who gave him five children, three of whom were augusts. The first twenty years of his reign are devoted to imposing himself as the main august against Maximian Hercules, Galerius, Maxentius, Maximin II and Licinius. He is recognized as the first Christian emperor, although baptized only on his deathbed on May 22, 337.
