Obverse description : Buste lauré, drapé et cuirassé de Constans César à droite, vu de trois quarts en arrière (A*2).
Obverse translation : "Flavius Iulius Constans Nobilissimus Cæsar", (Flavien Jules Constans très noble césar).

Reverse legend : GLORI-A EXER-CITVS/ -|-// SCONST.
Reverse description : Deux soldats debout face à face, casqués et vêtus militairement, tenant chacun une haste et s'appuyant sur un bouclier ; au milieu, un labarum orné d’un rond.
Reverse translation : “Gloria Exercitus”, (La Gloire de l'armée).

Commentary


Rubans de type 3 aux extrémités bouletées. Ptéryges invisibles sous le paludamentum. Semble beaucoup plus rare que ne le laissent supposer les ouvrages généraux pour le dernier fils de Constantin.

Constans was born in 320 and received the title of Caesar on December 25, 333. Made Augustus after September 9, 337 with his two other brothers, Constantine II and Constantius II, he soon became angry with his older brother who died in April 340 After the death of his brother, Constans recovers the inheritance of Constantine II and takes charge of the West.
