Exemplaire sur un petit flan épais, bien centré des deux côtés. Beau portrait. Revers de frappe un peu faible. Belle patine vert foncé

Obverse description : Buste diadémé, drapé et cuirassé de Constance II à droite, vu de trois quarts en avant (A'a) ; diadème perlé.
Obverse translation : “Dominus Noster Constantius Pius Felix Augustus”, (Notre seigneur Constance pieux heureux auguste).

Reverse legend : FEL TEMP - REPARATIO/ -|-// (GAMMA)SIS.
Reverse description : Soldat casqué, vêtu militairement, tenant un bouclier sur le bras gauche et une haste de la main droite terrassant un cavalier tombé au sol couché sur son cheval qui est tourné à droite.
Reverse translation : “Felicitas Temporum Reparatio”, (Le retour des temps heureux).

Commentary


Poids lourd. Rubans de type 3 aux extrémités bouletées. Ptéryges larges sous le paludamentum. Il est parfois difficile de différencier les différents types de maiorina réduite (RIC. 352 et 361) frappées au tournant des années 355.
Heavy weights. Type 3 ribbons with pelleted ends. Large pteryga under the paludamentum. It is sometimes difficult to differentiate the different types of reduced maiorina (RIC. 352 and 361) minted at the turn of the 355s

Augustus

Constantius II was born on August 7, 318 in Sirmium. He was raised to the cesarat on November 8, 324 at the age of six. He will reign 37 years, one of the longest reigns of the 4th century. After having crushed the revolt of Magnentius, he was alone august with a Caesar, Constance Galle, whom he had executed in 354. On November 6, 355, he elevated his cousin Julian to the title of Caesar. He went to Rome in 357, then to Sirmium, which he made his capital. Faced with the Sassanid danger, he left this region in 359 and settled in Antioch. Julien is proclaimed august in February 360. Constantius dies on November 3, 361, leaving Julien at the head of the Empire.
