Exemplaire sur un petit flan parfaitement centré des deux côtés. Très beau portrait. Joli revers de style fin. Patine marron foncé

Obverse description : Buste lauré, drapé et cuirassé de Constance II César à gauche, vu de trois quarts en avant (A*1).
Obverse translation : "Flavius Iulius Constantius Nobilissimus”, (Flavien Jules Constance très noble).

Reverse legend : D N CONSTANTINI MAX AVG/ -|-// P(CROISSANT)T.
Reverse description : Porte de camp surmontée de deux tourelles, au milieu, une étoile à huit rais.
Reverse translation : “Domini Nostri Constantini Maximo Augusti”, (À notre seigneur Constantin l’auguste le plus grand).
Commentary
Poids très léger. Rubans de type aux extrémités bouletées. Complètement inédit et non répertorié. Manque à tous les ouvrages consultés. De la plus insigne rareté. Sommes-nous en présence d’une monnaie hybride ou d’une imitation ? La monnaie semble de bon style pour une imitation. Nous sommes plutôt en présence d’un hybride avec un coin de droit pour un césar associé à un coin de revers très particulier pour l’atelier de Ticinum, réservé à Constantin Ier. Cependant, la légende du droit incomplète peut laisser planer le doute quant à l’imitation.

Are we in the presence of a hybrid coin or an imitation? The coin seems in good style for an imitation. We are rather in the presence of a hybrid with an obverse die for a Caesar associated with a very particular reverse die for the Ticinum mint, reserved for Constantine I. However, the incomplete obverse legend may leave doubt as to the imitation

Caesar
Constantius II was born on August 7, 318 in Sirmium. He was raised to the cesarat on November 8, 324 at the age of six. In 337, after the death of his father, it was he who murdered or allowed most of his collateral family, descendants of Constantius Chlorus and Theodora. Only Constance Galle and Julien escape the massacre.
