Obverse description : Buste lauré et cuirassé de Constance Ier césar à gauche, avec pan de paludamentum, vu de trois quarts en avant avec un sceptre sur l’épaule droite (F*5).

Obverse translation : “Constantius Nobilissimus Cæsar”, (Constance très noble césar).

Reverse

Reverse legend : GENIO POPV-LI ROMANI/ (AUTEL)|A// PLG.

Reverse description : Genius (Génie) debout à gauche, coiffé du modius, le manteau sur l'épaule gauche, tenant une patère de la main droite et une corne d'abondance de la main gauche.

Reverse translation : “Genio Populi Romani”, (Au Génie du Peuple romain).

Commentary

Poids excessivement léger. Rubans de type 3 aux extrémités boulétées. Cuirasse et épaulière cloutée. Ptéryges fines. Mêmes coins que les exemplaires décrits dans l’ouvrage de Pierre Bastien et provenant tous les deux de Vienne (Musée archéologique, B. 296a, pl. XXVII et Kunsthistorisches Museum, collection Voetter, B. 296b, pl. XXVII). Même coin de droit que l’exemplaire du trésor de Domqueur n° 674 (B. 296c., pl. XXVII). C’est le sixième exemplaire signalé dont le troisième avec cette césure. Prendra le numéro 296 e du Supplément III du Bastien

Extremely light weight. Type 3 ribbons with pellet-shaped ends. Studded cuirass and shoulder guard. Thin pteruges. Same dies as the examples described in Pierre Bastien's work, both from Vienna (Archaeological Museum, B. 296a, pl. XXVII and Kunsthistorisches Museum, Voetter collection, B. 296b, pl. XXVII). Same obverse die as the Domqueur hoard example no. 674 (B. 296c, pl. XXVII). This is the sixth recorded example, the third with this break. Will be numbered 296e in Supplement III of Bastien's work.
