Obverse description : Le pape bénissant de sa main droite, assis sur une chaise curule ou un trône orné de deux lions, coiffé d’une tiare coupant la légende en haut, tenant de sa main gauche un sceptre terminé par une croix.

Guillaume de Grimoard, French Benedictine and scholar, was elected pope on September 28, 1362 and consecrated on November 6 following under the name of Urban V. Founder of the University of Krakow, he tried, in 1367, to bring the Curia back to Rome , but after three years of opposition returns to Avignon. In 1368, he condemned the doctrines on poverty of the Franciscan Guillaume Foullechat. He died in Avignon on December 9, 1370.
