Reverse legend : VIRTVTI AVG P M TR P |XII IMP VIII COS V] P P.
Reverse description : Virtus (la Virilité) casquée, vêtu militairement debout à gauche, tenant une victoriola de la main gauche tendue et une lance de la main droite et appuyée sur un bouclier.
Reverse translation : “Virtuti Augusti Pontifex Maximus Tribunicia Potestate duodecimum Imperator octavum Consul quintum Pater Patriæ”, (À la virilité de l’auguste grand pontife revêtu de la douzième puissance tribunitienne de la huitième salutation impériale consul pour la cinquième fois père de la patrie).

Commentary


Poids très léger. Rubans de type 3. Ce type semble plus rare que ne le laissent supposer les ouvrages généraux. C’est la première fois que nous le proposons à la vente.

Commodus succeeded his father Marc Aurèle, who died in Vienna on March 17, 180. He hastened to conclude a truce with the Germanic tribes and then abandoned public life. The Empire was successively governed by the prefects of the Praetorium, Perennis from 182 to 185, Cléandre from 185 to 190, who were both assassinated. Commodus suffocated on the night of December 31, 192.
