Reverse description : Commode assis à gauche sur une chaise curule placée sur une estrade avec le Préfet du Prétoire placé derrière lui ; devant Liberalitas (la Libéralité) debout à gauche, tenant une tessère de la main droite et une corne d’abondance à gauche ; en bas de l’estrade, un citoyen au pied d’une échelle s’apprêtant à recevoir.
Reverse translation : “Tribunicia Potestate quintum Imperator quartum Consul tertium Pater Patriæ/ Liberalitas Augusti”, (Revêtu de la cinquième puissance tribunitienne de la quatrième salutation impériale consul pour la troisième fois père de la patrie/ La Libéralité de l’auguste).

Augustus

Commodus succeeded his father Marc Aurèle, who died in Vienna on March 17, 180. He hastened to conclude a truce with the Germanic tribes and then abandoned public life. The Empire was successively governed by the prefects of the Praetorium, Perennis from 182 to 185, Cléandre from 185 to 190, who were both assassinated. Commodus suffocated on the night of December 31, 192.
