Exemplaire sur un petit flan bien centré. Beau portrait juvénile de Commode. Frappe faible et molle au revers. Patine de collection ancienne

Reverse legend : PRI-NC - IVVENT.
Reverse description : Commode en habits militaires, debout à gauche, tenant une branche de la main droite, tendue, et une haste de la main gauche ; derrière lui, un trophée d’armes.
Reverse translation : “Principi Iuventutis”, (Le prince de la jeunesse).
Commentary
Poids léger. Ce denier est en fait beaucoup plus rare que ne le laissent penser les ouvrages généraux. C’est la première fois que nous présentons un exemplaire à la vente.

Caesar
Commodus was born in the purple on August 31, 161. Son of Marcus Aurelius and young Faustina, his twin brother died very early, in 165 or 166. He received the title of Caesar on this date but he was not really associated with power. only at the time of the revolt of Avidius Cassius in 175, after the death of Faustina Young in Cappadocia. For the first time since Nerva, the Emperor does not choose his successor by adoption, but raises his own offspring to august. Commodus, associated with the Empire from 176-177, will succeed his father in 180.
