En 1843 et 1844, les monnaies de 5 Centimes et de 10 Centimes sont frappées pour utilisation dans les Îles Marquises.
En 1842, l'amiral Abel Aubert Du Petit-Thouars transforme en protectorat les îles Marquises avant d’annexer en 1844, les îles de la Société.
