Historical background

FRENCH COLONIES - Louis-Philippe for Guadeloupe

Following a dispute, the France of Charles X and Louis-Philippe in 1830 undertook a military expedition in Algeria leading to the capture of the fort and the Emperor of Algiers. Aimlessly, the French are trying in vain to keep only maritime institutions. In 1837, we must seize Constantine while Abd el-Kader committed war against France. In 1840, Bugeaud, Governor-General of Algeria reduced Abd el-Kader is forced to surrender in 1847. The pacification of Algeria was completed in 1857.
