Historical background

COLOMBIA - REPUBLIC OF COLOMBIA

(1821-1837)

The uprising in Colombia occurs in 1810, but the Spanish reaction is brutal and the country does not obtain its independence until nine years later thanks to the victory of Boyaca, on August 7, 1819, won by Bolivar. The Congress of Angostura in December 1819 sees the creation of Greater Colombia which includes Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador and Panama. This set does not survive Bolivar (1783-1830). Venezuela left the Confederation in 1829, Ecuador in 1830, Panama in 1903.
