Historical background

COLOMBIA - REPUBLIC OF COLOMBIA

(since 1813)

The uprising in Colombia occurred in 1810, but the Spanish reaction was brutal and the country did not obtain its independence until nine years later thanks to the victory of Boyaca, on August 7, 1819, won by Bolivar. The Congress of Angostura in December 1819 saw the creation of Greater Colombia which included Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador and Panama. This set did not survive Bolivar (1783-1830). Venezuela left the Confederation in 1829, Ecuador in 1830, Panama in 1903.
