Historical background


COCHINCHINE FRENCH

Plains region of the lower Mekong, Cochin is furrowed by French missionaries in the nineteenth century. Persecuted by the Annamite emperors, they are appealing to the government and is occupied Saigon in 1859 and the rest of Cochin from 1862 to 1867. Cochin is then attached to Indochina. It is now part of Vietnam.
