The Numidian War broke out in 112 BC after Jugurtha had many Roman citizens murdered in Cirta, capital of the Kingdom of Numidia the previous year, in response to Rome's attempt to place his kingdom under trusteeship. . The war will last until 105 BC. In 111 BC, Publius Cornelius Scipio Nasica and Lucius Calpurnius Bestia were consuls and the following year, Marcus Minucius Rufus and Postumius Albinus succeeded them.
