Commentary

This type of medal seems relatively recent, mid-20th century; it would in fact be an advertising medal for the magazine “Connaissances actuelles”, offered to its customers in 1983, on the occasion of the tercentenary of Colbert’s death. The monogram on the reverse MHSP would correspond to the manufacturer, the “Manufacture Historique de Soldats de plombs”. Labor omnia vincit improbus (or simply Labor omnia vincit) is a Latin expression meaning in French “Hard work overcomes everything.”
