Médaille conservée dans un écrin en carton marron de la monnaie de Paris.

Le décret d'abolition de l'esclavage dans les colonies françaises du 4 février 1794 (16 pluviôse an II) est une décision émise par la Convention nationale et votée à Paris le 16 pluviôse an II, 4 février 1794. Le décret décide l'abolition de l'esclavage des Nègres dans toutes les Colonies. Il suit et confirme l'initiative des commissaires civils de Saint Domingue Sonthonax et Polverel et prend valeur de loi générale. Le texte ne prévoit d'indemnisation pour aucune des catégories sociales. Inégalement appliqué, il a été abrogé par la loi du 20 mai 1802..
Medal preserved in a brown cardboard case from the Paris Mint. The decree of abolition of slavery in the French colonies of February 4, 1794 (16 Pluviôse Year II) is a decision issued by the National Convention and voted in Paris on February 4, 1794, 16 Pluviôse Year II. The decree decides the abolition of Negro slavery in all the Colonies. It follows and confirms the initiative of the civil commissioners of Saint Domingue, Sonthonax and Polverel, and takes the force of general law. The text does not provide for compensation for any social category. Unevenly applied, it was repealed by the law of May 20, 1802.
