Exemplaire sur un petit flan épais, centré des deux côtés, mais court sur les bords. Très beau portrait d’Athéna. Joli revers bien venu à la frappe, un peu court sur la légende. Belle patine gris foncé avec des reflets dorés

Historical background


CILICIA - SOLI

(5th - 4th century BC)

Soloi was a very important city located on the Cilician coast not far from Zepyrion and Tarsus between Cilicia Trachea and Cilicia Pedias was perhaps founded at the instigation of the Rhodians, but the city also seems to have links with Athens. The city was destroyed by Tigranes I, King of Armenia after 83 BC. The city was refounded under the name of Pompeiopolis by Pompey in 66 BC..
