Historical background

CILICIA - OLBA

(1st century AD)

Ajax - High Priest

After the disappearance of Cleopatra and Marc Antony, Augustus recovered Cilicia and divided the region between Amyntas of Galatia and the principality of Olba. The monarchs of Olba were the high priests of the Teucrid dynasty and controlled much of Cilicia Trachea. Ajax is attested under Augustus, at the end of the reign and the beginning of that of Tiberius.
