Historical background

CILICIA – MALLOS / MALLUS

(5th-4th century BC)

Mallos is a coastal town in Cilicia, on the course of the Cnydus, not far from the Pyramos, the river that waters Mopsus. The city would have been created during the Trojan War by Mopsus and Amphilochos. Its coinage would not begin before the last quarter of the 5th century BC and was important until the Macedonian conquest.
