Exemplaire de qualité exceptionnelle pour ce type de monnayage de très joli style, de haut relief. Légèrement décentré au droit. Revers fantastique. Une fine patine grise avec des reflets mordorés recouvre l’exemplaire. Conserve encore l’intégralité de son brillant de frappe et de son coupant d’origine

CILICIA - TARSUS - MAZAEUS SATRAP

(361-334 BC)

Mazaios had an important command in the second half of the 4th century BC during the reigns of Artaxerxes II (404-359), Artaxerxes III (359-338), Arses (338-336) and finally Darius III Codoman (336-330). He was satrap of Cilicia, then after 351, governor of Trans-Euphratesia. In 334, he was replaced by Arsames. During the capture of Tarsus in 333 BC, Mazaios rallied to Alexander the Great. After the capture of Babylon in 331, he was appointed governor of the region and died in 328 BC..
