Historical background

CYPRUS - PAPHOS

(Fifth century BC)

Pnytos - King

Paphos, a coastal city located in the south-west of the island of Cyprus was of Phoenician origin and surtourt was the center of worship of Aphrodite on Cyprus under the name Koulia (Archaic and Classical Paphos). We have very little information on the Cypriot kings who ruled between Paphos and Stasandros Persian Wars, the first king mentioned in the middle of the fifth century BCE.
