Commentary

Mikhaíl Khristodoúlou Moúskos (1913-1977) fut archevêque et primat de l'Église orthodoxe de Chypre sous le nom de Makários III de 1950 à sa mort et 1er président de la République de Chypre de 1960 à 1977. Partisan du non-alignement et de l’indépendance de Chypre, il ne peut éviter le coup d’état de la junte grecque, ni l’invasion turque qui ont abouti à la partition de l’île.
Mikhaíl Khristodoúlou Mouskos (1913-1977) was Archbishop and Primate of the Orthodox Church of Cyprus under the name Makários III from 1950 until his death and 1st President of the Republic of Cyprus from 1960 to 1977. A supporter of non-alignment and the independence of Cyprus, he could not avoid the coup d'état of the Greek junta, nor the Turkish invasion which led to the partition of the island.
