Commentary

The Dàoguāng Emperor (1782-1850) was the eighth emperor of the Qing Dynasty. He reigned between 1850 and 1850. Weak and lacking in charisma, he was unable to oppose the introduction of opium into China by Western powers and was forced to cede Hong Kong and open many Chinese ports to European trade.
