Commentary


Le cardinal Raul Silva Henriquez (1907-1999) tenta de réconcilier dans les années 1960 les partis de gauche et ceux de droite mais ne put éviter la putsch du général Pinochet en 1973. Il devint un fervent défenseur des droits de l’homme et reçut le prix des droits de l’homme des Nations-unis en 1978. En 1983, il démissionna de son fonction d’Archevêque de Santiago suite à des divergences avec le pape Jean-Paul II..
Cardinal Raul Silva Henriquez (1907-1999) attempted to reconcile left-wing and right-wing parties in the 1960s but was unable to prevent General Pinochet's coup in 1973. He became a fervent defender of human rights and received the United Nations Human Rights Prize in 1978. In 1983, he resigned as Archbishop of Santiago following disagreements with Pope John Paul II.
