Commentary

La mine de cuivre de Collahuasi est située au Chili dans les Andes à plus de 4.800 m d’altitude. En 1899, le gisement La Grande est exploité par la Compañia Minera Collahuasi. En 1907,cette compagnie vend toutes ses propriétés à une société française, la Société Française des mines de cuivre. En 1913, la mine est revendu à la Compañia Minera Poderosa de Collahuasi à capitaux anglais.
Les pulperias étaient des magasins rattachés aux mines où les mineurs pouvaient acheter marchandises, nourriture et boissons. Ces mineurs étaient en partie payés avec ces jetons uniquement utilisables dans les magasins de la mine ce qui permettait de les fidéliser.
