Commentary

Les trois pièces du blason sont une dégénérescence des anciennes monnaies chartraines, les deniers au type bléso-chartrain. Cette légende sera reprise ultérieurement pour les jetons des notaires de Chartres.
The three coins of the coat of arms are a degeneration of the old Chartres coins, the deniers of the bléso-chartrain type. This legend will be later used for the tokens of the notaries of Chartres

Historical background

CHARTRES AND THE PAYS CHARTRAIN

Capital of the Carnutes, Chartres later became Autricum. Seat of a county in the 10th century, Chartres belonged to the house of Blois then to the house of Châtillon and finally it was sold to Philippe le Bel in 1286. Apanage, the county was erected into a duchy in 1528 for the benefit of Renée de France , Duchess of Ferrara. Henri IV was consecrated there on February 27, 1594 in the cathedral. Under Louis XIV, the duchy of Chartres is given to the house of Orléans whose heir will carry, until Louis-Philippe, the title of duke of Chartres.
