Commentary
Georges Depeyrot attributes with reservation the denier of Charters of the BnF (R 1445) on which one reads on the obverse only the BER[...]NS to the bishop Leobertus or Leudisbertus (...720-737...). This denier gives a more complete legend and it is perhaps necessary to see the name of the bishop Berthegran there. Compared to Belfort n° 6104, this coin however presents the name of the city on the side of the cross and not on the side of the bust. Bruno Foucray published very similar deniers of Chartres: “The monetary activity of the mint of Chartres under the first Carolingians with regard to several new deniers of Charlemagne pre-reform of 793”, Cahiers Numismatiques, pp. 27-34
