Coments on the condition:
Ce denier est frappé sur un flan très large laissant apparaître une bonne partie des grènetis extérieurs. Les reliefs sont assez nets sur les deux faces et une patine de médaillier recouvre les deux faces de cet exemplaire. On doit noter une petite tache sous l’X de REX

Charles the Bald became king on the death of his father, Louis the Pious, on June 20, 840. At the Treaty of Verdun in 843, the Carolingian empire was shared between Louis' three sons. Lothair receives Lotharingia, Louis the German, Francia Orientalis and Charles Francia Occidentalis. The type with the Christian legend predates 864 and the reform of the Edict of Pîtres, but it must be later than 843. It may have been struck between 850 and 860.
