Cette obole est frappée sur un flan assez large et très légèrement irrégulier. Exemplaire présentant quelques faiblesses de frappe et recouvert d’une patine grise de médaillier

Semble être le deuxième exemplaire connu après l’exemplaire provenant du trésor de la région de Cambrai proposé à la vente de MONNAIES XXVIII, n° 1420 mais qui était dans un état fragmentaire.

Charles the Bald

(20/06/840-6/10/877)

Charles the Bald became king on the death of his father, Louis the Pious, 20 June 840. The Treaty of Verdun in 843, the Carolingian empire was divided between the three son Louis. Lothar receives Lotharingia, Louis the German and Charles Francia Orientalis Francia Occidentalis. Type in the Christian legend is prior to 864 and the reform of the Edict of Pîtres, but it must be after 843. It has been struck between 850 and 860.
