Denier sur un flan un peu court et épais, presque carré. Frappe vigoureuse avec le brillant de frappe au droit, mais un peu plus molle au revers. Patine claire, légèrement tachée par endroits

Commentary

Le motif au monogramme édiculaire surmonté d’une croix correspond au denier attribué à Genillé (?) mais il se retrouve aussi sur le denier de Troyes, au nom de Fredebertus.
CAPPAS, qui semble correspondre à notre légende CAPAS, a fait attribuer le triens B. 1397 à Cheppes (Marne). La localisation de Cheppes, au sud de Chalons-en-Champagne nous semblait cohérente pour ce denier.
Mais l’article des Cahiers Numismatiques de la SENA de juin 2016 « Des deniers de Genillé réattribués à Troyes et Chappes (Aube) », permet de réattribuer ce denier à Chappes..
The motif with the aedicular monogram surmounted by a cross corresponds to the denier attributed to Genillé (?) but it is also found on the Troyes denier, in the name of Fredebertus. CAPPAS, which seems to correspond to our CAPAS legend, had the triens B. 1397 attributed to Cheppes (Marne). The location of Cheppes, south of Chalons-en-Champagne, seemed consistent to us for this denier. But the article in the Cahiers Numismatiques de la SENA of June 2016 \\\"Des deniers de Genillé réattributés à Troyes et Chappes (Aube)\\\", allows us to reattribute this denier to Chappes.
