Historical background

CHAMBRE DES COMPTES DE NORMANDIE / ACCOUNTS CHAMBER OF NORMANDY

The Chamber of Accounts of Normandy is one of the six chambers of the Chamber of Accounts of the kingdom with the Chamber of the Treasury, the Chamber of Languedoc, Champagne, Anjou and the Chamber of coins. Like the other chambers of accounts in the kingdom, it works with accountants who send their accounts to the public prosecutor. The latter presented them to the Grand bureau where auditors and correctors sat, the masters judged the final accounts. In reality, the provincial chambers of accounts were of no use for public accounting and their role was to clear the accounts sent by the King's Council without further examination..
