Obverse description : Tête d'Artémis à gauche, très stylisée, le menton assez fort, le nez fortement marqué et la chevelure fournie.

Commentary

Ce type de drachme, repris dans le LA TOUR sous les n° 2254 et 2255, manque au Nouvel Atlas. Ces monnaies devraient trouver leur place dans la série 1016 “types associés ou dérivés” de Bridiers, et plus particulièrement “type I dérivé du type au lion”. Si le prototype est la drachme lourde de Marseille, le poids et le traitement du lion rapprochent ces monnaies de l’ensemble de Bridiers.
Leur circulation serait plutôt localisée au centre-ouest qu'au sud-est ! D. Nash reprend d’ailleurs fort justement les deux monnaies de la BN (2254 et 2255) dans son étude.

Avec sa tête à gauche, cet exemplaire pourrait être un hybride, associant un avers d’une autre série (?).
This type of drachma, included in LA TOUR under numbers 2254 and 2255, is missing from the New Atlas. These coins should find their place in the series 1016 “associated or derived types” of Bridiers, and more particularly “type I derived from the lion type”. If the prototype is the heavy Marseille drachma, the weight and treatment of the lion bring these coins closer to the Bridiers set. Their circulation would be more localized in the center-west than in the south-east! D. Nash also very rightly takes up the two coins of the BN (2254 and 2255) in his study. With its head on the left, this example could be a hybrid, combining an obverse from another series (?)
