Monnaie homogène et relativement complète pour ce type rare et souvent fruste. Le droit est de frappe un peu plus molle, mais le revers est bien net. Patine grise, un peu hétérogène

Obverse description : Tête de loup à droite, tenant une tête humaine dans sa gueule ; deux croissants autour de la tête de loup.

Reverse description : Animal hybride à droite, constitué d'un protomé de bouquetin et d'une queue de poisson (?).

Commentary

Les quelques exemplaires connus étant pour la plupart dans un médiocre état, il est malaisé de comprendre le type de droit ; il s’agit pourtant bien d’une tête de loup (?) tenant une tête humaine barbue, dans la gueule.
Longtemps inédit, cette rare monnaie figure désormais dans le Nouvel Atlas, sous le type I “à la tête humaine dans la gueule de loup” de la série 1286 des fractions en argent des peuples de l’ouest.
The few known examples being mostly in poor condition, it is difficult to understand the type of obverse; however, it is indeed a wolf's head (?) holding a bearded human head in its mouth. Long unpublished, this rare coin now appears in the New Atlas, under type I “with a human head in a wolf's mouth” of the 1286 series of silver fractions of the peoples of the west
