CENTRAL

In 1965, Colonel Jean Bedel Bokassa, seizes power. It repeals the Constitution and declared president for life Marshal. On 4 December 1976, the extraordinary congress of the "MESAN refurbished" proclaims the Central African Empire. Marshal Bokassa became Emperor Bokassa I.. It is crowned December 4, 1977 with the help of France and organizes his "Napoleonic coronation", filmed by TVs worldwide. Thereunder, freedom of expression is suppressed and opponents are tried by military courts, and most were sentenced to death.
