Commentary

This type is copied from the tetradrachm of Philip II of Macedon (359-336 BC). Initially, the coinage was in silver, then the metal became poorer and the last tetradrachms were in poor billon or bronze. This type of coinage is found in the Regöly (Tolna) treasure.

Historical background

DANUBIAN CELTS - HUNGARY

(2nd - 1st century BC)

A certain number of imitations are referenced only in relation to the treasures to which they belonged, this is the case for the type of "Kapostal-Regöly" or "Tòffalu", both discovered in Hungary and which are sometimes associated in the indeterminate classification "Celts of the East".
