Coments on the condition:
Exemplaire sur un flan épais, bien centré des deux côtés. Portrait magnifique de réalisme avec un style extraordinaire à l’usure superficielle. Revers à l’usure un peu plus prononcée, bien venu à la frappe. Jolie patine de collection ancienne avec des reflets gris foncé mordorés et bleutés irisés au revers avec de minuscules traces de corrosion en bordure de flan

Commentary


Nous n’avons pas repéré de liaison de coin pour ce type qui est très proche iconographiquement des émissions de Pixodare (cf. Konuk 7c, pl. 34).

Historical background


DECAY - satraps DECAY - HIDRIEUS

(351-344 BC)

Hekatomnos (395-377 AC). Was satrap of Caria and participated in the second war in Asia Minor. His son Mausolus (377-353 AC.), Who succeeded him, is much better known for the mausoleum built for him his widow, Artemisia, to perpetuate his memory and was one of the seven wonders of the world. This is Hidrieus, the second son of Hekatomnos, who succeeded him and continued the coinage introduced by his brother Halicarnassus. Pixodare, the last son of Hekatomnos succeeded to the widow of Hidrieus, Ada (344-340 AC).. He was eliminated in 334 BC The following year, Rhoontopates last satrap of Caria, was deposed by Alexander the Great seized Halicarnassus.
