Exemplaire sur un flan ovale et épais, bien centré des deux côtés. Très beau portrait de Carausius. Joli revers inhabituel, bien venu à la frappe de haut relief, légèrement stylisé. Belle patine marron foncé

Commentary

Poids très lourd. Sans argenture superficielle. Rubans de type 3. Ptéryges invisibles sous le paludamentum. Portrait légèrement stylisé.

CARAUSIUS

(late 286-293)

Carausius is named commander-in-chief of the fleet in charge of fighting against Frankish and Breton pirates. Proclaimed august in 286, he seized Brittany and part of the west coast of northern Gaul, between Scheldt and Seine. He was assassinated at the end of 293 by Allectus, his praetorian prefect.
