Exemplaire sur un flan bien centré avec les grènetis visibles. Belle tête de Caracalla. Revers tout à fait inhabituel. Patine de collection ancienne avec des reflets mordorés, légèrement granuleuse au revers

Reverse description : Jupiter nu debout à droite, la tête tournée à gauche, la jambe fléchie, le manteau sur l’épaule, tenant un foudre de la main droite et un sceptre long de la main gauche.
Reverse translation : “Pontifex Maximus Tribunicia Potestate vicesimum Consul quartum Pater Patriæ”, (Grand pontife revêtu de la vingtième puissance tribunitienne consul pour la quatrième fois père de la patrie).

Commentary


Rubans de type 2. Rare variante. Ce type semble beaucoup plus rare que ne le laissent supposer les ouvrages généraux. C’est la première fois que nous le présentons à la vente.

Augustus

After Geta's assassination, Caracalla decreed the "damnatio memoriæ" of his brother. The "Constitution Antoniniana" was promulgated in 212. All the inhabitants of the Empire became Roman citizens. The following year he undertook a campaign in Germania and won numerous victories over the Germans, Iapyges and Goths. He received the title of "Germanicus". The end of the reign was marked in 215 by the Monetary Reform and the creation of the Antoninianus. Caracalla begins a final campaign against the Parthians. He is assassinated after having celebrated his vicennalia.
