Monnaie sur un flan légèrement irrégulier, centré des deux côtés. Jolis portraits. Usure importante mais régulière : des griffures au droit et au revers. Patine grise avec reflets dorés

Reverse description : Buste drapé d’Agrippine mère à droite avec une chevelure ornementée se terminant par une queue de cheval (L).
Reverse translation : “Agrippina Mater Caii Cæsaris Augusti Germanici”, (Agrippine mère de Caius César auguste germanique).


Poids très léger. Ce denier n’est pas fourré, malgré son poids, mais l’argent est cristallisé. J.-B. Giard pour cette émission a répertorié huit coins de droit et neuf de revers pour douze exemplaires recensés.

Historical background


Caligula was very attached to his parents. He lost his father, Germanicus, at the age of seven years. His mother Agrippina, daughter of Julie and Agrippa erected in memory of the father disappeared. Over time, she got her children against Tiberius, his stepfather because he was the third husband of Julie. She accused him of having poisoned her husband through Piso, governor of Syria. Tiberius finally take her daughter "dislike" and eventually was exiled. Then he executed or banished the other children in the offspring of Germanicus: Nero and Drusus were successively eliminated, Agrippina and Drusilla young exiled Agrippina mother left him to die. Tiberius kept with him as Caligula who eventually succeed him after his protector stifle the testimony of Suetonius.
