Très bel exemplaire avec des types de droit et de revers centrés et de frappe vigoureuse, surtout au revers. Surface un peu hétérogène au droit avec de petits manques de surface au revers

Obverse description : Tête d’Apollon laurée à droite, une rouelle sur la joue ; chevelure flamboyante.

Reverse description : Cheval sanglé bondissant à droite, l'aurige sur la croupe ; une rouelle entre les jambes du cheval.


Selon L.-P. Delestrée, cette série d’hémistatère et de quarts de statères proviendrait des environs de Fécamp, sur le littoral des Calètes (pays de Caux), cf. RN 2001.
Cet exemplaire présente une rouelle à peine visible sur la joue au droit et une autre plus nette entre les jambes du cheval au revers. La chevelure est très fouillée, agrémentée de multiples petits globules.

The Calètes people of Belgium were sometimes considered Armoricans. They occupied a part of the present department of Seine-Maritime with Caux and Bray. They had for neighbors Veliocasses the Bellovaci they were customers and Ambiens. The Calètes have provided a contingent of ten thousand Belgian coalition led by the Bellovaci in 57 BC In 52 BC, they participated with seven armoricains people to send twenty thousand men for the army of relief for delivering Alesia. In 51 BC, they took part in the revolt of the Belgian people, led by the Bellovaci. Two of their main oppida were in Bracquemont and Fécamp. In Roman times, their capital was Juliobona Lillebonne.
