Exemplaire sur un petit flan ovale, bien centré des deux côtés avec le grènetis visible au revers. Beau portrait de la Liberté voilée à l’usure régulière. Joli revers de style fin, mais de frappe un peu molle. Belle patine de collection ancienne avec reflets dorés, légèrement oxydée en surface au revers en particulier

Poids léger, mais la monnaie ne semble pas fourrée. Denier frappé dans un atelier itinérant accompagnant Brutus.

Historical background

BRUTUS

(85-42 BC)

Brutus first chooses Pompey against Caesar. After Pharsalus (48 BC), the dictator forgives and adopts Brutus. This plots against Caesar and participates in his assassination on the Ides of March (March 15, 44 BC). He then retired to Macedonia. Having gathered his troops with those of Cassius, he confronts Marc Antoine and Octave at Philippi in 42 BC. Defeated, he commits suicide.
