Commentary

Monnaie fourrée. Pour ce type, M. Crawford a relevé une estimation de trente coins de droit et de trente coins de revers. Ce type semble beaucoup plus rare que ne le laissent supposer les ouvrages généraux.
Filled coin. For this type, Mr. Crawford noted an estimate of thirty obverse dies and thirty reverse dies. This type seems much rarer than general works suggest.

Historical background

BRUTUS

(85-42 BC)

Brutus first chooses Pompey against Caesar. After Pharsalus (48 BC), the dictator forgives and adopts Brutus. This plots against Caesar and participates in his assassination on the Ides of March (March 15, 44 BC). He then retired to Macedonia. Having gathered his troops with those of Cassius, he confronts Marc Antoine and Octave at Philippi in 42 BC. Defeated, he commits suicide.
